Every year from 1st June to 30th November Saint Lucia prepares for the hurricane season. This year as an incentive to enhance the populace's skills and knowledge to save a life, The Saint John Association of Saint Lucia has taken the initiative to faciliate a training programme to further this exercise. St John Association of St Lucia suitated at George V Park in Castries is the local Chapter of the Order of St John, a global volunteer organization which provides vital first aid care and ambulance service to the public.
The Southern Tourism Development Corporation in assisting this venture held a training session on August 21, 2010 at the Vieux Fort Technical Secondary School at Beanefield coordinated by Glen Wilson where a total of thirty participants were educated in the rapid mobilization and organization of themselves in case of a disaster as well as the proper technics when administering first aid. For the duration of 2010 this one day 6 hour first aid course will be provided free of charge to interested persons island wide.
